for West Anchorage
Crime and SB-91
Who would have thought an African American with roots in Alabama would one day run for political office in the great State of Alaska? My name is Marilyn Stewart-Richardson. I am a Republican Candidate for State House, District 21. After graduating from Conecuh County High School in 1979, I left Alabama to join the U.S. Army. In 1981 I was stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska. My 36 years in Alaska have both humbled me and filled me with gratitude, and for decades I’ve called Alaska home.
In 2012, I was awarded the Freedom’s Sister Award by Ford Motor Company for my community outreach. Previous recipients included Myrlie Evers-Williams, Barbara Jordan, and Rosa Parks.
I believe that when you are sincerely grateful, keep your promises, and help others, your life and your community will thrive. The cornerstones of my life are God, Family, and Country. I will work tirelessly to help Alaska build a strong economy, cut our budget to sustainable levels, and ensure that West Anchorage has a strong advocate in Juneau.
Marilyn believes in:
The Full Return of your PFD.The PFD was wrongfully taken away from you and your family. When elected, I will champion legislation for the FULL return of YOUR money that is rightfully yours.
REPEALING SB91 and making neighborhoods safe again.SB91, the crime bill enacted in 2016, was a traumatic failure that is negatively affecting families all over our communities. When elected, I will call for the immediate REPEAL of SB91 and support new legislation to fight crime, keep criminals in prison, and make Alaska safe again for our children!
Excellent and accountable education.Marilyn believes that all Alaskan students deserve to have the brightest possible future. She’ll fight to make sure our education system serves our students well.
Right-sized, sustainable government.Marilyn believes that just like the rest of us, government needs to live within its means. Marilyn will work to cut unnecessary spending and make sure that government provides effective service to Alaskans without being a burden.
Strong representation for West Anchorage.Marilyn believes that her West Anchorage neighbors deserve the most effective representation, and will fight hard to make sure their voices are heard in Juneau.
I believe in a strong economic future for Alaskans, a better environment for Alaskan businesses and excellent and accountable education for all Alaskan students, therefore I will work towards creating the right-sized government that is sustainable for Alaska. I believe that West Anchorage neighbors deserve the most effective representation, and I will fight hard to make sure that your voices are heard in Juneau.
